Help for the Heroes
By Andrew Hewitt, 08 June 2010 –
Had a great ride out on Sunday for the Charity Help the Heroes.
Myself, Julie, Darryn from the Regent and Tony from Ambleside Rotary club raised over £300.
2000 bikes set off from Windermere which was quite some sight and rode in convoy along the coast road to Cockermouth. It was a great event and we all has a great time and raising money for such a good cause made it even better. The highlight of my day was having a picture with local British Superbike rider James Ellison who is injured with a broken leg but still managed to ride the 80 miles.
We stopped off in Cockermouth as I haven't been since the terrible flooding. Things are slowly getting back to normal but I think it will be August before all the shops and businesses are fully open again. Even though we spent just an hour there having a bar lunch and talking to some locals made us realize what lovely people they are. Full of optimism, hope and pride willing us to visit their town again which we shall definitely do.
On Monday Julie and I went over to the Appleby Horse Fair which is quite a event and worth while visiting if you ever get the opportunity. You really have to see it to believe it.
Hope to see you soon.
