A number of outdoor challenges will be held in the Lake District this summer – offering guests to the area the chance to do something a little different.
Firstly, there’s the Great North Swim this weekend, which our very own Andrew Hewitt is taking part in. The swim, which takes place on 10-12 June in Windermere, is Europe’s biggest open water swimming event, with around 10,000 participants. Over the course of three days, participants of all abilities will take the plunge over a range of distances, with the picturesque Lake District National Park as the backdrop. Even if you don’t want to take part in the swim, everyone is invited along to cheer the swimmers on.
Director of The Regent Hotel, Andrew Hewitt, is a member of a 71-strong team that will be raising money for Rosemere Cancer Foundation. Andrew will be taking part in the swim as part of ‘Team David Benjamin’ – in memory of popular estate agent David Benjamin, who passed away last year. The team have so far raised over £8,000 in donations and are aiming to raise at least £10,000 for the charity. Later this month, there’s Triathlon X – dubbed the world’s toughest triathlon. The event takes place in Ambleside on June 25 th and includes a 2.4 mile swim in Lake Windermere and a 112-mile bike ride, followed by a 26.4 mile run.
